Grim dawn map hotkey4/20/2023 So I did… only to find that compared to Grim Dawn there was just too much missing in the quality of life department. Some time back, either earlier this year or last year, I had the urge to replay Diablo II. I think the most annoying part would be having to wait for level 50 (the point legendaries start dropping) to pick up the 2nd class, but then again it might give me a reason to use abilities and ability combos I normally wouldn’t. Essentially start a new Hardcore character, then pick the first class based on whatever abilities the first epic drop has and second class based on the abilities of the first legendary.Ĭould be interesting… or could be aggravating. So I thought I might try out a sort of roguelike approach to the game. Not sure now whether I want to drag my remaining six post-Normal builds through Elite, try out the RoT’s Barbarian class (one thing I loved about D2‘s Barbarian was that it could dual-wield 2H weapons), or try something ‘new’.īasically, I’ve reached the point where I can’t really theorycraft new builds without stepping on the toes of my existing ones. And ultimately I still like base GD a whole lot more: The enemy variety, class/build variety, (semi-) reactive quests, destructive environments, and the extreme amount of work that went into balancing all the various items and abilities against one another. Just to properly compare, I also ran my Deceiver and Druid builds through Elite (after slightly revising them, different gun/boots for the former and components/devotions for the latter) to avoid looking at unmodded GD through nostalgia glasses. Like, the unbalanced builds and items are the entire point of the game. But then a funny thing happened after unlocking Claws of Thunder… all my memories of blazing through D2 insta-gibbing hoards of enemies with janky abilities came rushing back the moment it triggered. My opinion regarding the lack of balance didn’t change in the early game if anything it hardened due to how much more powerful Dragon Talon was compared to the other starting attack abilities. An Assassin/Nightblade this time, as Assassin was one of my favorite D2 classes. So despite my earlier comments I decided to take another character through the Reign of Terror Mod.

That means that while you will be able to write code to get things done, you might learn a hell of a lot of bad habits that won't be tolerated in the professional field. In my opinion, the main problem with using this game as a learning tool is that the game does not teach you anything about things like data structures and design patterns. you can gather resources and verify their legitimacy, without anyone to guide you through the process), then you can also use this game to learn how to code, but I would still suggest you follow a tutorial/course/workshop on writing code. If you know how to learn by yourself (i.e. If you know how to code though, then this game is a great playground to practice in and get better at coding. So its actually really good because not only do you have to simplify code as much as possible, but also optimise it for performance, an it has to make sense, i recommend the game for beginners looking to program in the future, but also people with experience to refresh code foundation. This is basically it, it does teach the mindset, once you get into it, you find yourself looking at actual code documentation for the game, it does teach in some respect, in my first few days i wrote a single line not to do with anything else and the script ram jumped up to 35GB from 1.6. If you're just tinkering, it's a decent "entry point." If you're thinking of dev work for a living, you'll need to go way beyond this. The game doesn't teach anything regarding code structure but does teach the "thinking style" required (obsession with efficiency.) Breakwaters release date4/19/2023 Rock groynes can be more effective in this case, as wooden groynes tend to reflect energy rather than absorb it. Groynes can also be used in estuaries to decrease tidal flow velocities at the shoreline. They can also cause sediment transportation away from the coastal system, especially during storm events. Rip marine currents adjacent the groynes can present a hazard to the bathers. Another adverse effect (especially for rivers) can be an increase in current velocity in the constricted flow area, with increasing bed erosion and a deepening of the bed level. This is because groynes do not add sediment to the shoreface but instead distribute the available material differently. As any other systems acting on the long-shore drift, they can negatively affect the transportation and sedimentation pattern of underflow areas, causing downdrift erosion. Their effectiveness depends on their extension into the river or sea. Groynes trap sediments from longshore drift so that the coast behind the sand layer is protected from erosion. Timber or gabions may be used for temporary structures. They are more durable and absorb more wave energy due to their permeable nature. Wooden groynes, steel groynes, rubble-mound and sand-filled bag groynes, or groynes made of concrete elements can also be found. Rock is often used as construction material. A groyne field or system is a series of groynes acting together to protect a beach. Groynes, breakwaters, and artificial reefs are grey adaptation measures commonly implemented to counteract erosion and wave action in coastal areas (or in some case in rivers).Ī groyne is a shore protection structure built perpendicular to the shoreline of the coast (or river), over the beach and into the shoreface (the area between the nearshore region and the inner continental shelf), to reduce longshore drift and trap sediments. Whoa there! What follows assumes a basic understanding of node/npm and working from the command line. Make no mistake, Grunt is still a great tool, but Gulp solved our most significant problem the best of the three – running consistently 8-10 times faster than we had grown used to. Primarily, it all came down to speed: Gulp was significantly faster than Grunt, which itself was an order of magnitude faster than Codekit. It’s also worth noting that Gulp and Grunt are both free to use and operate entirely from the command line… which promotes ease of continuity when you might, say, change workstations, or change people working with your repo.Īfter the briefest of flings with Grunt, we’re now happily wed to Gulp. Beyond just replacing the CodeKit toolset, both Gulp and Grunt offer a comparatively deeper set of features through their available plugins (which we’ll cover shortly). So we up and decided it might be time to try our hand at Grunt and Gulp, two notable build automation tools that both claimed to outright replace everything we were running through CodeKit. For larger projects CodeKit becomes a significant bottleneck to productivity, as it huffs and puffs its way through our more involved source trees, adding solid seconds to every refresh. It hides itself away, listening for changes and rendering our output on the fly. Round here, we’ve been running for some time with good ol’ CodeKit, which (aside from the occasional dummy-spit) pretty much does what it says on the tin. Reload speed is a familiar bottleneck, en masse it can eat away at your productivity and your patience. I’ll save them out again, and likely repeat the process. If I can make it to the browser and refresh it faster than my build automation can render the changes, it’s officially slow… I’ll double refresh. I make a change, I want to see it live as fast as possible. In front-end land, it doesn’t take long to feel the cumulative hangover of build lag.
